Who We Are

What We Do

The College for Military Veterans and Emergency Services (CMVES), often referred to simply as ‘the College’, help people make a smooth transition from life in the uniformed services to civilian life.

The College is the outcome of many years’ work with both Regular and Reservist Armed Forces personnel, the Veteran Community and military families. We guide and advise men and women who are planning to leave military service, be that through medical discharge, redundancy or choice. We provide the same service for the military Veteran community, emergency service personnel and their families.

The work we do has been made possible by the support afforded from Health Education North West (HENW) and the partnership working with 42nd Infantry Brigade & Headquarters North West.

Aims and objectives

The College for Military Veterans and Emergency Services (CMVES) has six key objectives:

    To facilitate ex-Service personnel to reach future aspirations in civilian life through additional educational/occupational opportunities by maximising Service experience and qualifications and take opportunities to establish Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs).

    To provide opportunities for employment in a range of organisations including the public sector.

    To provide education/guidance for personnel who deliver specific areas of expertise e.g. Welfare.
  • 4
    To work in partnership with Further and Higher Education institutions, NHS Trusts and businesses to enhance the transition process for ex-Service personnel and their families.

    To work with staff in the emergency services to guide on future training and employment opportunities.
  • 6
    To undertake research at a national and international level.

Mission Statement

CMVES respects the diversity, skills and knowledge brought to civilian life by ex-military and emergency services personnel. We work with the veteran community, emergency services and families to empower and motivate all in reaching their full potential in work, education, business and the transition to civilian life. This will be achieved by providing multi-layered educational options, leadership, employment and apprenticeship opportunities whilst underpining this through innovative, high quality research. This initiative will include national and international collaboration with academic partners, businesses, third sector, charities and the Armed Forces.
