Charity single ‘They Need You’ released to raise money for the Royal British Legion

5th November 2015

A student from The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) has written and released a song paying tribute to war veterans. Every download raises money for the Royal British Legion.

The moving single called ‘They Need You‘ is written and performed by LIPA student Ruby Sky (aka Emma Buckley).

The song is the result of an education project called Giving Veterans a Voice, which saw war veterans as old as 98 sharing their memories on camera for a DVD and also visiting schools to speak to local children. The project was funded by Liverpool City Council and the Ministry of Defence.

Giving Veterans a Voice was led by writer Lesley Van Denmark who also works at LIPA as a student support mentor. She encouraged Emma to attend the interviews with the veterans and hear their stories to help her write the song. ‘They Need You‘ echoes the voices of those who contributed to the project with Emma including poignant lines from their interviews in her lyrics.

The single was released on Tuesday 3rd November 2015 at the Florence Institute to coincide with a celebration event to mark the end of the project.

The single is available on YouTube and iTunes. For every copy downloaded 99p (the complete download cost) will go to the Royal British Legion.
