The following individuals have benefited from the services provided by CMVES. They have kindly agreed to share their stories, but we have changed their names to protect their privacy.
I served for 15 years before being medically discharged. When I joined, I didn’t have any qualifications. I completed a few courses while in service, but I didn’t think they would be useful. I needed help figuring out life after service and what I could do. That’s when I was put in touch with the staff at CMVES. They helped me identify my interests, and I discovered that I enjoyed drawing. With their support, I put together a portfolio. Even though I had no formal qualifications, my experience and portfolio helped me get into university. I’m now pursuing an art degree, fully funded by the MoD, so I don’t have to worry as much.
Due to personal reasons, I couldn’t complete four years of training, and I was devastated because I had seen it as my future. I was struggling and not from the local area, but I was put in touch with staff at CMVES, who came to meet me. I was quite negative and must have been quite a challenge, but they persevered and followed up with me after two weeks. They motivated me. I started back at college part-time to gain my basic qualifications while working, and now I’m doing an access course. I really want to work in sports. **Chris** I’m preparing for my resettlement and have signed up for the Career Transition Partnership (CTP). I want to make this transition as smooth as possible, but I found the information about courses and options a bit overwhelming. It was great to chat with someone from CMVES, as they helped me sort everything out. I feel clearer now and plan to do some additional study while I’m still serving.
I have been a Combat Medical Technician (CMT) during my time in service, and now I want to become a paramedic. I didn’t know how to pursue this, but after an informal and informative chat, I now have a clear path forward.
I left the Navy after a medical discharge; it wasn’t dramatic, but I could no longer continue my service. Before I joined the military, I had always wanted to be a dental nurse, but I wasn’t sure if that was still an option for me. I got a referral to the staff at CMVES, who helped me with my CV. I secured a job in a dental practice and completed my dental training alongside it.
